Job summary

The YMCA of East Tennessee is seeking a part-time swim instructor in Knoxville to lead swimming lessons and support families within our aquatics program.

You will prepare lessons, build strong relationships with students and parents, and help promote program participation while adhering to safety and Y policies. Training and ongoing instruction are provided, with opportunities to contribute to safety and program quality.

Qualifications

• There are no educational requirements for this position.
• One to three months experience in swim instructions is required.
• Must be able to swim and demonstrate techniques being taught.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with Y guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the Y. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
• Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
• Reports for duty in professional and timely manner.
• Follows all Y policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Other duties may be assigned.
