Job summary

YMCA of Greater Cleveland is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor to plan and deliver high-quality swim lessons for members and participants using the YMCA curriculum. The instructor should be punctual, professional, and committed to the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

The role involves preparing lessons, ensuring safety, maintaining a clean pool area, and communicating with parents.

Qualifications

• Public speaking ability and customer service orientation toward individuals and groups.
• CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training within 30 days of hire.
• Current swim instructor certification (WSI/YSI) preferred or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
• Knowledge of pool readings and chemistry; experience with teaching aids like kickboards and pull buoys.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swim classes using the Y curriculum and explains skills clearly to students.
• Plans each class in advance and starts on time with proper materials.
• Maintains safety and adheres to YMCA attendance and safety rules.
• Keeps the pool area neat and clean and informs supervisor of class issues.
• Evaluates participants' swimming skills and places them in appropriate classes.
• Communicates with participants and parents and provides timely class updates and substitutions.
