Job summary

The YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South Cordova branch is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor to supervise and teach students in a safe, positive environment, promoting water safety and YMCA values.

You will plan and deliver swimming activities for all ages, maintain constant supervision, communicate with parents, and support staff during trainings and events, with some evenings and weekend shifts.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16.
• CPR/AED and first aid certifications within 30 days of hire.
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent or ability to obtain.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize students who may need assistance.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize and remedy hazardous situations.
• Demonstrated ability to swim in shallow and deep water and tread water.
• Patience and the ability to communicate with all ages and levels of students, parents and caregivers.

Responsibilities

• Provides swimming and water safety instruction to students of all ages and abilities.
• Plans and implements program activities that are developmentally appropriate and aligned with YMCA values.
• Maintains constant supervision of students and supports learners as needed.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings.
• Follow YMCA policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
• Builds positive relationships with parents and caregivers and other staff.
