Job summary

Power Wellness is hiring a part-time Swim Instructor for The Health and Fitness Center at Washtenaw Community College. You will lead swim classes, teach group lessons, and assist with clinics to help members improve skill and safety in the water.

Requirements include a High School diploma or GED, 1 year of swim instruction experience, CPR/AED within 90 days, Lifeguard if required by state law, and Water Safety Instructor or USA Swim Coaching level 1 preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Minimum 1 year related experience instructing and/or coaching swim.
• CPR/AED certification required within 90 days of hire.
• Current Lifeguard certification required, if state law requires it.
• Water Safety Instructor certification preferred.
• USA Swim Coaching level 1 preferred.
• Excellent inter-personal and communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task and maintain a professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

• Lead individual and small group swim classes to members and guests of various fitness levels.
• Teach within standard guidelines of specialty certifications.
• Understand contraindicated exercises and provide a safe approach.
• Assess client needs by evaluating strength and ability in water.
• Respond to and schedule all requests for swim instruction.
• Provide suggestions for new programs and monthly swim promotions.
• Maintain industry certification in good standing and pursue CE requirements.
• Avoid missed sessions and arrange substitutes when needed.
• Be flexible with center hours, schedules and appointments.
• Meet all safety requirements and certifications for duties.
• Demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures and EMS communication.
