Job summary

UTMB Health - League City Oral Surgery is seeking a Surgical Technologist for a part-time position (19.99 hours or less per week, non-benefit bearing). The role requires completion of a Surgical Technologist Program and current certification or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months.

Prior military training or pre-2009 practice eligibility may apply, plus BLS certification. The technologist will assist in surgical operations, ensure sterile technique, manage instruments, and support

Qualifications

• Completion of a Surgical Technologist Program.
• Current certification as a Surgical Technologist or obtain within 6 months.
• Eligibility to have practiced surgical technology before Sep 1, 2009.
• Army/Navy/Air Force/Coast Guard medical technology training acceptable.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
• Preferred: prior surgical technologist experience.

Responsibilities

• Checks supplies and equipment for the procedure.
• Scrubs in, dons sterile gown and gloves.
• Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
• Assists in positioning, skin prep, and draping.
• Passes instruments to the surgeon during surgery.
• Maintains sterile technique throughout the procedure.
• Assists with postoperative dressings.
• Supports the team and trains staff as needed.
• Prepares instruments for sterilization and maintains tray inventory.

Surgical Technologist certification

Attorney/healthcare facility experience before 2009

Army/Navy/Air Force/Coast Guard surgical tech training
