Qualifications

• Post-secondary certificate or associate degree in surgical technology or related field.
• Hands-on clinical rotations or internships essential.
• Experience in surgical settings via internships, externships, or entry-level roles.
• CST certification from NBSTSA.
• Licensure may be required by state or employer.
• Optional TS-C credential offered by NCCT.
• Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
• Thorough knowledge of surgical instruments and terminology.
• Ability to work under pressure and maintain sterile field.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Setting up sterile operating rooms with equipment and supplies.
• Sterilizing surgical instruments and ensuring functionality.
• Assisting with patient preparation by draping and positioning.
• Anticipating surgeon's needs and passing instruments, sutures, and meds.
• Holding retractors, suctioning, sponging, and applying electrocautery as directed.
• Maintaining sterile technique throughout procedures.
• Handling and preparing tissue specimens for lab analysis.
• Post-operative cleaning and instrument reprocessing.
• Adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines.
