John Deere in Ames, IA is seeking a Part Time Student in Technical Product Engineering to support project work in a lab and in the field. You will assist with design iteration, testing, and evaluation of prototype equipment.

Ideal candidates are pursuing Mechanical, Industrial, or Agricultural Engineering at Iowa State University, available 10-20 hours/week during the academic year, and able to commute to Ames. Graduation in 2028 or later; GPA 2.8+; visa sponsorship not available.

The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company’s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND.

Your Responsibilities

As a Part Time Student Technical - Product Engineering forJohn Deere JDTIC Spray Lab located inAmes, IA but may include project work in Ankeny, IA.

You will :

• Effectively communicate and work in a team environment
• Propose or evaluate solutions to improve cost, quality, and performance.
• Test design concepts in lab tests or in field environments on prototype equipment
• Apply technical knowledge to identify and resolve design weaknesses

VISA Sponsorship is NOT available for this position

• I deally you will be pursuing a degree inMechanical, Industrial, or Agricultural Engineering from Iowa State University; other engineering fields may apply.
• Must be registered as a full-time student at Iowa State University
• Graduation date of May 2028 or later
• Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above
• Available to work 10-20 hours/week during the academic year
• Available to work 30-40 hours/week during the summer semester
• Must be able to commute to the work location in Ames, IA on a daily basis year-round
• Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior standing students are preferred, Senior standing and those pursuing Advanced degrees may apply.

What Makes You Stand Out

• Knowledge or work experience in production agriculture (specifically tillage, planters, and sprayers).
• Create design concepts in 3D CAD modeling applications (Creo, ProE).
• Develop dynamic performance specifications using simulation. (MATLAB, Simscape, Simulink)
• Programming experience (MATLAB, C++, Python, Visual Basic, Arduino, Raspberry Pi).

$15 - $40 hourly based on published rates for business function and education level.
