Qualifications

• Native or near-native fluency in Spanish.
• Advanced communication skills in English.
• Experience teaching Spanish to non-native speakers.
• Ability to work professionally with minimal supervision.
• Sufficient technological skills to use Canvas and textbook systems effectively.

Responsibilities

• Teaches using a proficiency-based approach to language learning.
• Follows the shared syllabus of the JCU Spanish and Hispanic Studies program and implements common assessments.
• Prepares and delivers course materials, in-class activities, and assessments consistent with course outcomes.
• Evaluates and grades students’ work in a timely manner.
• Maintains and submits student attendance records, grades and other required documentation by specified deadlines.
• Is available to assist students during office hours.
• Communicates regularly with Spanish section coordinator and department chair.
• Responds promptly to departmental and student communications.
• Meets periodically with supervisors and colleagues for collaboration, training and development.
• Participates in departmental efforts to assess student learning.
• Responds appropriately to the needs of a diverse population.
