Position Title: Part Time Sociology Instructor

Advertised Salary: $1,008 per lecture hour

Department: Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Division

Working Hours: Varies (3 lecture hours per week)

General Description

SUNY Niagara has a need for part-time instructors to teach introductory courses in Sociology in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Division. These classes are typically in-person face‑to‑face three lecture hours per week at the main Sanborn campus or at the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute, but may also include face‑to‑face enhanced with Zoom, asynchronous online, blended synchronous on Zoom, hyflex, and hybrid formats. Applicants must be able to attend in‑person meetings, professional development, and other obligations on the Sanborn campus even if teaching online or at NFCI.

Typical Work Activities
  • Teach courses in the delivery format agreed upon (face‑to‑face, face‑to‑face with Zoom option, hyflex, hybrid, blended, or online)
  • Track attendance
  • Complete census reports
  • Report on student learning outcomes at the end of the semester
  • Report grades at the conclusion of the semester
Essential Functions
  • Ability to work with and teach a diverse student population
  • Proficient in public speaking
  • Effective communication with students, co‑workers, supervisors, and campus community
  • Ability to develop, prepare, and present information
  • Computer proficiency
  • Physically capable of performing duties and adjust teaching to ADA provisions
Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Sociology or related field and excellent written communication skills as demonstrated by application materials.

Desirable Qualifications
  • ABD or Ph.D. in Sociology or related field
  • Prior teaching experience at the college level
  • Experience with classroom technologies
  • Experience with a learning management system such as D2L’s Brightspace
  • Online teaching experience
  • Evidence of successful teaching of non‑traditional students
