Job summary

Southern Research is hiring a part-time security officer to protect personnel, facilities, and assets across the Birmingham campus. You will operate alarms, monitor access, perform rounds, and respond to incidents to maintain a safe environment.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, good communication, and a valid Alabama driver’s license; firefight/firearm certifications may be required. Flexibility for varying shifts and overtime is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• MS Office proficiency (email, Word, Excel).
• Valid Alabama Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record.
• Willing to work overtime when necessary.
• Able to work well in a team environment.
• Must qualify for firearm training through ASRB and obtain related certifications.
• This position requires US citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Respond to alarms and coordinate with outside responders as needed.
• Maintain a secured facility by monitoring access and deliveries.
• Enforce the Institute Parking Policy and address unsafe parking.
• Patrol campus by vehicle or on foot and monitor surveillance systems.
• Prepare accurate shift reports and logs.
• Monitor employee and visitor access and sign-in procedures.
• Follow incident command procedures and cooperate with authorities.
