Job summary

The Austin Centers for Exceptional Students in Phoenix West is seeking Part Time Transportation Behavioral Support Staff to join our school transportation team. You will provide active behavioral support on 15-passenger vans to help drivers keep students safe on the move.

Our students have emotional and behavioral needs; you will de-escalate, implement CPI-based strategies, and document incidents while ensuring daily safety checks and clean vehicle conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CPI certification required (or obtain within 60 days of hire).
• CPR and First Aid certification required prior to start (employer covers training and cost).
• Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Provide active behavioral support to students during transportation.
• Use verbal de-escalation and CPI techniques; recognize triggers early.
• Understand that student behavior is communication; remain calm and professional.
• Use safe physical intervention only as a last resort, per CPI protocols; document incidents.
• Maintain continuous supervision; ensure students are seated with seatbelts/harnesses secured.
• Act as driver\'s behavioral support partner; communicate safety concerns clearly.
• Assist with loading/unloading and vehicle safety checks.
• Respond to medical needs or emergencies; provide first aid as trained.
• Report all incidents to the Transportation Coordinator per policy.
• Help maintain interior cleanliness of the vehicle as needed.
