Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a Medical Assistant for a part-time, school-based role in Woodridge Local Schools. You will provide clinical and administrative support under the direction of a Provider or licensed Nurse.

Responsibilities include patient prep, vital signs, phlebotomy, data collection for care plans, specimen handling, EMR documentation, and routine office tasks. BLS certification is required and MA certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
• Healthcare environment experience preferred.
• Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) experience required.
• EPIC or similar EMR software experience preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant Certificate Program (MA), EMT, or Paramedic Program required (credit given for years of experience if not completed).
• BLS training from American Heart Association required.
• Medical Assistant certification (CMA or RMA) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Actively interfaces with patients and families.
• Prepares patients for examination; records vital signs; performs phlebotomy as needed; administers medications as directed by Providers.
• Collects data for assessment and discharge planning under Licensed Nurse.
• Collects, processes, and submits laboratory specimens per policy.
• Documents care accurately in the school medical record.
• Cleans, stocks, and prepares examination rooms.
• Develops positive relationships with patients, families, school personnel and colleagues.
• Performs routine office tasks (faxing, copying, filing) as needed.
• Other duties assigned.
