Job summary

Omaha Public Schools is seeking a Kitchen Assistant for Nathan Hale Middle in Omaha, NE. The role runs 5.5 hours daily from 8:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., August through May when students are in session.

You will assist with meal prep, service, and cleanup, while ensuring food safety and excellent customer service. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent; basic math with money and measurements; and strong attendance and reliability.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic with money, weight, volume, and distance.
• Experience in food service preferred; knowledge of food safety is essential.
• Strong customer service and attendance record are important.
• Good communication and ability to interact with diverse groups.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation, service, and storage of food.
• Help clean and sanitize equipment, utensils, and kitchen areas.
• Monitor portion control, pricing accuracy, and safe storage of supplies.
• Support cross-training in kitchen stations and maintain service standards.
• Assist with daily tasks and be ready to travel to other schools when needed.
