Job summary

Hampton City Schools is seeking a part-time Bus Attendant for the 2026-2027 school year. This position supports student safety on buses and auxiliary vehicles, assists with boarding/disembarking, routes, and safety inspections, and ensures proper release to authorized adults.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds. Evening/weekend expectations may apply in some routes.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to sit for long periods.
• Must be able to push or pull up to 50 pounds; emergency situations may require exceeding these limits.
• Standing, twisting, bending, and kneeling may be required while handling students.
• Ability to interact positively and communicate effectively with coworkers, students, parents, and school officials.

Responsibilities

• Assists students while boarding and disembarking the bus or auxiliary vehicle.
• Learns routes, schedules, and pick-up points; assists substitute drivers with directions.
• Assists driver in conducting evacuation drills and pre-trip safety inspections.
• Ensures safety equipment is in proper working order and secured.
• Supervises student conduct and reports concerns to school officials.
• Keeps vehicle interior clean, organized, and stocked.
• Ensures proper release of students to authorized adults.
