Job summary

Hampton City Schools in Transportation is seeking a part-time Bus Attendant for the 2026-2027 school year. You will assist students boarding and disembarking and help the driver with safety procedures during routes.

Responsibilities include supervising student behavior, aiding pre-trip and post-trip inspections, ensuring proper release to authorized adults, and keeping the vehicle clean and ready for daily use.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to sit for long periods.
• Must be able to push or pull up to 50 pounds; may be required to push or pull up to 30 pounds a day and frequently.
• Standing, twisting, turning, pushing, pulling, bending, crawling, crouching, stooping, and kneeling may be required while handling students and wheelchairs, and completing pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
• Ability to positively interact and communicate effectively with coworkers, students, parents, and school officials.
• Ability to maintain effective control over passengers to ensure student behavior is not a distraction to the driver.
• Ability and willingness to assist physically, mentally, and emotionally handicapped students in being transported to and from school.

Responsibilities

• Assists students boarding and disembarking the bus or auxiliary vehicle and secures safety equipment as appropriate.
• Learns routes, schedules, and pickup points and assists substitute drivers with directions.
• Assists driver in conducting evacuation drills.
• Assists driver with pre-trip safety inspections and ensures equipment is in proper working order.
• Supervises student conduct and documents concerns for school officials or transportation supervisor.
• Maintains a clean, organized, and well-stocked vehicle interior.
• Ensures proper release of students to authorized adults, including special education needs.
• Performs daily post-trip inspection of the bus or vehicle to ensure all passengers are off and no belongings are left behind.
• Maintains American Red Cross CPR and first aid certifications.
• Other related duties as assigned.
