Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in safety or related field preferred.
• 5+ years of construction safety experience.
• BCSP CSP and/or CHST certifications a plus.

Responsibilities

• Acquire expert knowledge of MS-18 framework for Construction & Installation Projects.
• Site safety observations and documentation of findings.
• Participate in pre-bid, pre-construction, progress and safety team meetings.
• Facilitate corrective measures where warranted.
• Represent contractor or Owner in progress meetings.
• Ensure compliance with safety policies and regulations.

SMG seeks a Part‑time Safety Advisor - Construction in Aiken, South Carolina. Local or traveling candidates will be accepted for this role. The key function of a Safety Advisor is to put safety at the forefront of their job, prioritize the client's needs, work well in a team setting, be self‑managed, and be flexible when it comes to change. This person will be responsible for implementing contractor safety management. This is a part‑time role, working 20 hours per week. Eventually, this will move to a full‑time role. This person will visit the site twice a week. The schedule is flexible.

Overview of Job Responsibilities

• Acquire expert knowledge of the Management Standard Construction & Installation Projects Design, Planning & Management. Guide designer, and main contractor stakeholders through the MS‑18 framework.
• Site safety observations, including documentation of findings.
• Actively participate in pre‑bid, pre‑construction, progress, owner, event review, safety teams, daily coordination, stand‑downs, and other HSE related requests.
• Facilitate corrective measures where warranted.
• Represent the contractor or Owner in progress meetings.
• Verify compliance with safety policies and procedures as required by law, the Owner or contractor.
• Provide incident management and support.
• Interact with craftspeople and promote a safe working culture.
• Documentation and report preparation.
• Conduct contractor program review.

Requirements

• 5+ years of previous Construction Safety experience.
• Bachelor's degree in safety or related fields preferred.
• BCSP Certifications is a plus: CSP, CHST.
• Safety Program Development experience.
• Demonstrated Safety Leadership.
• Technical Construction understanding.
• Ability to engage professionally with clients and contractors.
