Job summary

The Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School (O-School) is a Therapeutic Day School serving K-12 students with diverse needs. We seek a part-time Registered Nurse to support student health and wellness in a therapeutic setting.

This role works with the Full-Time Nurse, Medical Director, and team to deliver high-quality care. A willingness to obtain an Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Nurse endorsement is required.

Qualifications

• Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum of five (5) years of relevant clinical experience.
• Experience in a school setting and/or pediatric behavioral health, child/adolescent psychiatry, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications and maintain accurate, compliant documentation.
• Provide nursing care for acute illness, injury, and chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes).
• Support communicable disease protocols and overall student wellness initiatives.
• Serve as coverage for the Full-Time Nurse as needed.
• Maintain complete and compliant student health records in alignment with ISBE requirements and school policies.
• Support health-related components of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Communicate with families, school staff, and external providers, including the Medical Director and consulting clinicians.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to promote a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environment.
• Participate in school community activities and interdisciplinary collaboration.
