Job summary

LAC Federal is seeking a part-time, entry-level Reference Librarian for the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The hybrid role requires on-site presence 1-2 days weekly to provide reference desk coverage in line with contract requirements.

The ideal candidate is an MLIS student or recent graduate seeking hands-on experience in a specialized library setting, with opportunities to develop skills in reference services and collection development.

Qualifications

• MLIS from an ALA-accredited program or current enrollment in an ALA-accredited MLIS program.
• Entry-level position with no prior professional librarian experience required.
• Familiarity with academic, special, or federal library environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide reference and research assistance to library patrons in person, by phone, and via email.
• Staff the reference desk during assigned hours, responding to inquiries and helping patrons locate information and resources.
• Assist with literature searches and bibliographic inquiries using print and electronic resources.
• Support collection development by evaluating and selecting print and electronic materials.
• Participate in collaborative library projects, bibliometric research, and internal website content creation.
• Review and update library policies, procedures, and reference materials.
• Utilize library databases and information systems to support reference services.
• Collaborate with staff and project manager to maintain efficient operations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Project Manager.
