Job summary

Salt Lake City Public Library is seeking an Associate Librarian in Salt Lake City for a part-time role. The position involves reference, circulation, customer service, and location support across library locations.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree with at least one year of related experience, strong customer service skills, and solid communication abilities. This role includes evenings and weekends and requires background checks.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree and one year related job experience or an equivalent combination.
• Enthusiasm to work with the public and a solid foundation in good customer service skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills, ability to work with teams, and the ability to motivate and negotiate with diverse individuals and groups.
• Intermediate knowledge of operating a computer and programs.
• Ability to work days, nights or weekends as scheduled.
• If travel is required for library purposes must have transportation.

Responsibilities

• High quality customer service to library patrons through in-person, phone, and electronic inquiries.
• Provide in-depth reference and readers advisory; interpret library rules and policies for the public.
• Assist patrons with computers and technology and serve a diverse population.
• Foster good working relationships with staff, volunteers and vendors; accept assignments from supervisors promptly.
• Participate in committees or workgroups aligned with strategic goals and lead when appropriate.
• Support collection maintenance and create/maintain high-quality library displays.
• Perform circulation tasks such as check-in/out and processing holds; may handle cash transactions.
• May supervise or support volunteer programs and act as in-charge manager when needed.
