Gwinnett County Government is seeking a part-time Recreation Leader to assist with operations and supervision at a Community Center. You will help with program implementation, registrations, room set-up, and site tours, supporting staff during rentals and events.

The role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, evening and weekend availability, and experience in Parks and Recreation or customer service. A High School Diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license are required, with training provided for

  • Skill in developing resources for program/service information
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to drive a 15-passenger van
  • Knowledge of Gwinnett County Park locations

Responsibilities

  • Supervising and organizing the desk/computer area while performing various reception and clerical duties
  • Collecting fees for admissions, complying with all cash handling procedures, and making sure appropriate paperwork is completed for programs
  • Monitoring and supervising all activities and participants in a variety of areas, including classes, camps, programs, daily rentals, and afterhours rentals
  • Organizing and maintaining files, records of programs, and user information
  • Documenting first aid accidents and all incidents, assisting in placing phone calls, flagging down medical personnel, and providing crowd control during an emergency
  • Creating signs as necessary to keep the public informed of current information
  • Overseeing volunteers and assisting special interest groups
  • Serving as back-up when the Program Supervisor and Program Leader are unavailable
  • Performing daily housekeeping and maintenance duties inside and outside of the facility
  • Assisting during special events
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Job Description

This is a part-time position with a maximum of 1,508 hours per year and is not eligible for paid holidays, leave, or benefits.

Description

The Recreation Leader will be assisting with the operations and supervision of a current Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation Community Center. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with program implementation and development; preparing and processing class registrations, spreadsheets, and databases; completing room reservations; providing site tours; and completing set-up and tear-down of rooms, tables, chairs, exhibits, etc. in the facility and on the grounds for various activities.

  • Works with staff and others overseeing the weekend operation of facility rentals that includes: documenting issues, writing work orders, supervising facilities and assisting special interest groups, dealing with the public concerning special events, programs, facility information, property used, enforcing policies, guidelines and rules as to the use of facilities, opening & closing facility and insuring all equipment is properly accounted for, assisting with special events, special programs, etc.
  • Assists with the proper maintenance of facilities and grounds daily, performing general housekeeping & maintenance duties and ensuring the facility is in safe condition
  • The work is typically performed in an outdoor environment
  • Compiling attendant manuals and assisting with the training of facility attendants
  • The incumbent must be able to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds and will be required to work evenings and weekends on a regular basis
  • Supervising rentals at buildings and pavilions in Gwinnett County
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Other Job Requirements/Information
  • Must be available to work a variety of hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • This posting will remain open long-term to create a continuous pool of candidates for positions across multiple locations.

Preferred Qualifications In Addition To The Above Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in recreation programming, event planning, supervising, and scheduling
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • CPR/First Aid/Defibrillator Certification (must be attached to application) or must obtain within the first 3 months of employment (Gwinnett County will provide training opportunity)
