Job summary

Indiana University Bloomington is seeking a part-time, in-person student employee for Recreational Sports. You will provide customer service, greet participants, manage equipment check-out, and support facility operations at SRSC and Bill Garrett Fieldhouse in Bloomington, IN.

Eligible for federal work-study, with 12.00 USD per hour and 8–12 hours weekly. Ideal candidates will demonstrate effective communication, teamwork, and reliability, with strong organizational and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service at Recreational Sports facilities.
  • Greet participants, manage equipment check-out and access verification.
  • Support cleanliness by laundering towels and uniforms for programs.
  • Assist at Welcome Center and Equipment Checkout with check-in/out and organization.
  • Collaborate with departments to ensure high-quality service.
  • Enforce facility policies and maintain a safe, welcoming environment.
  • Attend team meetings and complete required training.

Recreational Sports is part of the Office of Student Life, which is dedicated to supporting students¿ health, safety, and success throughout their IU experience. The Recreational Sports mission is to connect, inform, and inspire individuals to lead active, healthy lifestyles. Serving over 36,000 students, faculty, staff, and community members annually, we offer a variety of programs across 2 multipurpose facilities, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, adventure spaces, and more. Our team includes 46 professional staff and over 800 student employees.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Provides excellent customer service and support participants throughout their visit to Recreational Sports facilities.
  • Greets participants and staff professionally while managing equipment check-out and verifying facility access at the Welcome Center.
  • Supports cleanliness and organization by laundering towels and uniforms for intramural and club sports programs.
  • Supports daily operations at the Welcome Center and Equipment Checkout, including customer service, equipment check-in/check-out, and receiving and organizing equipment and promotional items.
  • Collaborates with other departments to ensure high-quality service and foster positive relationships.
  • Promotes a safe and welcoming environment by communicating and enforcing facility policies.
  • Maintains awareness of job expectations by attending team meetings, completing required training, and staying current through email and internal communications.
  • Active participation in the RecSports community
  • Dedication to fostering a positive and respectful atmosphere for all.

This is an in-person position.

Onsite work will take place at the following campus recreation facilities, depending on the needs of each sporting event:

  • Student Recreational Sports Center (SRSC)
  • Bill Garrett Fieldhouse

$12.00 per hour

8-12 hours per week, with flexibility based on availability.

Early morning, evening and weekend shifts may be required.

No position should exceed 29 hours per week across all campus positions.
