Job summary

Metro is hiring part-time bus operators in Los Angeles to transport passengers, collect fares, and provide customer service with safety inspections of equipment. This role may evolve to Line Instructor/Mentor and will involve working across divisions, shifts, and potentially various routes.

Requirements include a minimum age of 21, a valid CA driver license (Class C to start, with Class B P endorsement during training), and a clean driving record.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Valid California Class C Driver License.
• U.S. driver license for at least two years.
• Satisfactory driving record over past five years.
• Must obtain California Class B Driver License with P endorsement before training.
• Valid California Verification of Transit Training (VTT) Card.
• Valid Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC).
• Pass Metro Bus Operator course at OCI.
• Positions are safety-sensitive and subject to drug/alcohol testing per FTA.
• Authorized to work in the United States and have CDL status.

Responsibilities

• Collect fares and transport passengers on public transit buses.
• Know routes, transfer points, and fares for lines assigned.
• Perform pre-pull-out safety inspections and inform maintenance of issues.
• Follow route maps, schedules, and instruction for pull-outs and pulls-ins.
• Provide schedule, route, and fare information to passengers.
• Operate wheelchair ramp and assist passengers with disabilities safely.
• Secure wheelchairs and communicate actions clearly.
• Transmit and receive two-way radio messages during incidents.
• Instruct trainee drivers if promoted to Line Instructor/Mentor.
• Report hazardous conditions along routes and loading zones; adjust routes as needed.
• Maintain driving record and comply with regulations and Metro policies.
• Complete reports as requested by management.
