Job summary

Western State Hospital in Virginia is seeking a part-time Registered Nurse to provide direct patient care in a 24/7 psychiatric setting. You will work within an interdisciplinary team, supervise staff, and support adult/geriatric units while documenting in the EHR.

Shift options include 4-, 8-, or 12-hour shifts on weekends and holidays with differential pay. A Virginia RN license and BLS/trauma-informed care knowledge are required.

Qualifications

• Current unrestricted RN license valid in Virginia.
• Ability to delegate and supervise nursing staff and communicate effectively.
• Ability to participate in interdisciplinary team care delivery.
• Willingness to work overtime during staffing emergencies in a 24/7 psychiatric hospital.
• Complete annual competency training including TOVA III with restraints and BLS.
• Knowledge of recovery/trauma-informed care.

Responsibilities

• Deliver quality care as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Maintain accountability in a therapeutic environment.
• Supervise unit staff including PCTs and LPNs.
• Assist with ADLs and one-on-one patient observations.
• Document patient care and communications in the EHR.
• Apply de-escalation techniques to manage incidents.
• Administer medications and treatments as directed.
• Report patient status and care plans to the team.
• Observe, document, and communicate patient wellbeing.
