Job summary

The Vigo County Harrison Township Assessor's Office is seeking a part-time Deputy Assessor to assist in property assessments, maintain documentation, and serve the public.

The role includes assisting in the assessment of real and personal property, data entry, and supporting the Field Agent with permits and new construction checks, while upholding Indiana assessment guidelines and confidentiality requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Level I and/or Level II Indiana Assessor/Appraiser certifications.
• Ability to pass a drug test.
• Knowledge of Indiana tax law and real property assessment guidelines.
• Working knowledge of standard office procedures and department computer systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work with the public and other departments.
• Ability to perform field duties as required.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the assessment of real and/or personal property.
• Performs various clerical duties, such as typing and data entry.
• Assists in assessment of mobile homes, sketches houses onto system.
• Answers telephone and greets office visitors, providing property information.
• Downloads required information and matches with deeds to keep records current.
• Calculates breakouts on homestead and verifies sales information.
• Processes appeals and schedules hearings.
• Assists Field Agent with duties including gathering building permits and checking Harrison Township for new construction.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
