Job summary

New Trier Township Assessor’s office is seeking a full-time, onsite Deputy Assessor to assist property owners with assessment and tax questions. The role emphasizes patient, professional service during public interactions, with training provided on assessment processes and Cook County procedures.

The position requires daily public contact and collaborative coordination with county and township departments, along with maintaining records and updating the office webpage.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to constituent service.
• Able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, stay organized.
• Proficient with computers, standard office equipment, and Microsoft products.
• Experience working with diverse communities.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
• Residence in New Trier Township or Cook County is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Daily interaction with the public, particularly during property tax appeal periods and when tax bills are issued.
• Maintain property tax records and databases; liaise with Cook County Assessor, Treasurer, and Board of Review, and with zoning/permitting departments.
• Manage the Assessor’s Office webpage and prepare periodic activity reports for the Township Supervisor and Board of Trustees.
