Job summary

Hillside Elementary-JBLM in Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA is hiring a part-time Preschool Instructor for ECEAP to support early childhood education under Head Start standards. The role requires guiding development, preparing lesson plans, and collaborating with families.

The position requires an AA in Early Childhood Education and two years of classroom experience, with a schedule of 7.6 hours per day, 194 days per year, and shifts Monday to Friday (7:30am–4:00pm or 7:30am–2:00pm on Wednesdays).

Qualifications

• An AA degree in Early Childhood Education AND two (2) years of successful experience working in an early childhood classroom.
• Knowledge of and competency in curriculum areas such as music, art, science, pre-reading, storytelling, and language development.
• Ability to work with students, parents, volunteers, staff, and administration in a diverse cultural and socio-economic environment.

Responsibilities

• Plan and develop a daily schedule of classroom routines and activities.
• Interact positively with all children to support individual learning and meet emotional needs.
• Communicate regularly with families and involve them in the educational program.
• Conduct family visits to engage parents in learning goals.
• Attend teacher/parent meetings as needed.
• Document written observations and develop learning plans within six weeks of entry.
• Administer screening tools within 45 days and re-screen as necessary.
• Direct and train Head Start/ECEAP Teacher Assistants and volunteers.
• Participate in interdisciplinary planning for children and families.
