Job summary

Independence School District is seeking an Early Education Teacher Assistant to support the classroom in the Head Start program. This 9-month position is part-time, with less than 20 hours per week, and a stipend of $1.50 per hour added for Early Head Start.

Responsibilities include creating a nurturing learning environment, assisting with curriculum, and maintaining documentation, sign-in/out, and family communication. CPR within 30 days; tests; flexible hours; reports to Principal.

Qualifications

• Nine hours of early childhood coursework or a completed CDA.
• Be enrolled in a CDA program to be completed within two years.
• Be enrolled in a degree program with at least nine hours in early childhood coursework.
• Have a degree and are completing 120 CDA clock hours.
• Experience working with preschool children is desirable.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Able to stoop, crawl, kneel and bend to speak to children at eye level.

Responsibilities

• Provide a nurturing and appropriate learning environment for children in the Early Education program.
• Assist in implementing a program that encourages individual differences of the children regardless of abilities, heritage, culture, and language.
• Share responsibilities of maintaining the physical environment, daily sign in/out, and planning learning activities.
• Support and implement a process-oriented curriculum.
• Assist in communicating and establishing rapport with families.
• Attend and participate in parent and staff meetings and training sessions.
• Participate in two home visits and two parent conferences per year.
• Know and use positive guidance and discipline techniques.
• Maintain safety awareness in classroom, playground, and field trips.
• Attend required meetings, including evening meetings.
• Submit medical exam and EFT; CPR training within 30 days of hire.
