Job summary

Greater Somerset County YMCA in Somerville, NJ, seeks a Site Supervisor for afterschool programs at Somerville YMCA Preschool. This on-site role requires leadership to implement engaging activities, supervise children, and foster a safe, welcoming environment for families.

The position emphasizes building relationships with children and guardians, maintaining discipline per policy, and coordinating space and safety procedures. Part-time hours and community-focused impact are central to the role.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Associates degree in childcare, education, or related field or have a minimum of 2 years' experience working with children ages 5-12.
• Experience working with children in a structured group setting.
• Ability to learn and think quickly to solve child-to-child situations.
• Good communication skills and ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments.

Responsibilities

• Assist with implementation of a varied and challenging program of activities for children including Enrichment Activities, Organized Physical Activities, Free Play, and Snack Time.
• Supervise all children on the site.
• Build relationships with children and families and greet them positively each day; assist parents/guardians with questions or concerns.
• Maintain discipline with children under the guidance of the GSCYMCA Child Abuse Prevention Policy and Code of Conduct.
• Motivate and encourage all children to participate in program activities.
• Provide a safe environment and follow all required safety procedures in case of emergency.
• Develop an attractive, organized, clean, and stimulating space: cleaning and disinfecting equipment daily/weekly, maintaining space and materials, setting up and cleaning up before/after children.
• Keeps Youth Program Director apprised of situations requiring attention.

Somerville YMCA is currently seeking a Site Supervisor for our before and after school programs in Somerville YMCA Preschool. We are looking for cause-driven leaders that share our commitment to nurture and support our children, promote youth development, and foster a sense of social responsibility. This job is fully on-site, not remote.

Essential Functions

• Assists with implementation of a varied and challenging program of activities for children which includes Enrichment Activities, Organized Physical Activities, Free Play, and Snack Time.
