Job summary

The West Side YMCA in New York, NY seeks an Activity Specialist to deliver portfolio art instruction in the Y Afterschool program and holiday camps. This part-time position provides a safe, positive environment that promotes learning and personal growth for school-age children.

You will teach portfolio art fundamentals, plan engaging activities, coordinate a culminating showcase when applicable, and maintain accurate records while collaborating with staff and families.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; college credits preferred.
• Minimum 2 years experience with youth and planning portfolio art activities.
• Portfolio art certification required.
• Knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Supervise participants and ensure safety at all times.
• Plan and implement age-appropriate portfolio art activities.
• Coordinate culminating performance when applicable.
• Maintain program documentation (sign-in sheets, attendance, behavior reports).
• Collaborate with Afterschool Counselors, staff, teachers, and other program staff.
• Create an inclusive, welcoming environment for diverse participants.
• Prepare learning environment and materials for activities.
• Participate in training sessions and meetings.
• Adhere to health and program standards.
