Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to collect venous and fingerstick blood specimens, following department policies. Training and orientation of new staff in proper blood collection procedures, and ensuring accurate patient identification, are key responsibilities.

Responsibilities include operating the laboratory computer system, maintaining inventory, packaging and transporting specimens, and handling calls to support workflow while complying with HIPAA and privacy

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED required.
• Phlebotomy training required.
• Preferred phlebotomy or medical assistant certificate.

Responsibilities

• Collect venous and fingerstick blood specimens from all patient types and age groups according to department policies and procedures.
• Train and orient new employees, students, and homecare nurses in blood collection practices and procedures.
• Operate the laboratory computer system for job activities and assigned area.
• Monitor levels of and order supplies to maintain adequate inventory.
• Package and transport specimens to appropriate departments for processing.
• Answer phones, voice pages, and beeper calls to support workflow changes.
• Ensure 100% accurate patient identification.
