McDowell County seeks a part-time Permit Specialist to serve as the main liaison among the public, contractors, developers, and the building inspections department. The role ensures compliance with state codes and local rules, with afternoon hours from 12:30 to 4:00 pm.

You will process permits, verify licenses and insurance, and coordinate inspections while maintaining records and delivering strong customer service. A pre-employment drug screen and background check are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion or ability to complete the Law and Administration (Code Enforcement) course within one year of employment.
• Pre-employment drug screening and background check required.

Responsibilities

• Process building and residential permits.
• Verify contractor license, required insurance, and lien information.
• Check plans and applications for completeness and code compliance.
• Schedule and coordinate inspections.
• Provide administrative support and handle correspondence/reports.
