Job summary

Lone Star College-Tomball seeks a student mentor to advise and guide students about higher education options at participating institutions and local high schools. Mentors will share information at events such as College Nights and FAFSA Saturdays, delivering high-level guidance and support to diverse student groups.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must be a currently enrolled Lone Star student pursuing a course of study.

Responsibilities

  • Filing and documentation tasks.
  • Copying and faxing as needed.
  • Provide general information related to the department.
  • Record maintenance and data entry of forms.
  • Provide handouts and/or forms to customers.
  • Maintain inventory of materials and supplies.
  • Event preparation and support for campus activities.
  • Collect and record data for programs.
  • Maintain knowledge of multiple programs offered.
  • Provide limited technology support to end users.
  • Interpret regulations and policies as required.
  • Maintain and/or process records.

Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE

This position will mentor and advise students about highereducation at participating institutions of higher education orlocal high schools. Mentors will provide information to high schoolstudents at events such as College Nights and FAFSA Saturdays.Required to provide high level information. May interact one-on-onewith students. May interact with a high volume of customers. Willwork and assist diverse groups.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably todo the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending;carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; ordriving an automobile. No special physical demands are required toperform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in aMicrosoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other generaloffice equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed tocarry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimalexposure to safety hazards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must be a currently enrolled Lone Star student pursuing acourse of study
