Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care's Department of Nursing is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support the Nursing team in delivering patient care under the Nurse Manager's supervision. The role focuses on vital signs, asepsis, basic diagnostic tasks, patient transfers, hygiene and comfort, and collaboration with care teams.

This is a part-time, on-campus position at Stead Family Children's Hospital Level 7 in Iowa City, offering a 20-hour work week with day/evening shifts and every 4th weekend,

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Independently obtain and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure).
• Perform asepsis and tasks including phlebotomy, peripheral IV removal, and Foley catheter removal and care for isolated patients.
• Perform simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as enemas, preoperative skin prep, dressing changes, and specimen collection.
• Assist with patient admission, transfers, and discharges; provide for patient hygiene and comfort.
• Turn, position and ambulate patients; transport patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies.
• Participate in nursing care conferences and report pertinent patient information to the nurse in charge.
