Qualifications

• Required: Medical or clerical experience; 50 wpm keyboard skills; Excellent spelling, math, problem solving skills; Filing skills; telephone skills; data entry; Ability to work independently and with co-workers as well as communicate effectively with patients and professionals; and Ability to prioritize, organize, and attend to detail.
• Preferred: Medical terminology, and limited ICD-9 coding knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Performs department patient and visitor reception, and directs patient to the appropriate location.
• Obtains and verifies insurance and billing information; accurately processes information for all insurance types.
• Audits charts daily for completeness and accuracy; completes follow-ups within designated time; forwards tasks as needed.
• Prepares identification bracelet and paperwork used during patient care in a timely manner.
• Maintains >95% accuracy.
• Looks up non-scheduled patient exams in the database.
• Contacts appropriate people when office equipment repair is needed.
• Maintains close working relationship with ancillary clinical departments and physician offices.
• Attends meetings and supports division directions; assists in communicating improvements.
• Trains and orients new department clerical staff.
• Communicates effectively in person and by telephone; collaborates with diverse personnel.
• Demonstrates awareness of age, cultural, spiritual, and patient needs.
