Job summary

Uphams Corner Health Center is seeking an Optical Assistant for the Eye Care department in Dorchester, MA. This part-time role (20 hours/week) involves assisting with optical sales, patient check-in/out, and daily shop operations under supervision of the Optical Manager.

Responsibilities include guiding patients in frame and lens selections, ensuring accurate prescriptions, processing orders in Flexsys, and supporting with insurance and billing tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• High-school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Previous administrative experience.
• Computer literacy with Microsoft Office; ability to learn new programs.

Responsibilities

• Greet, check in/out patients in optical shop with strong customer focus.
• Assist patients in selecting, ordering, and dispensing glasses.
• Verify prescriptions with optometrist/ophthalmologist and ensure order accuracy.
• Measure, fit, and adjust eyewear; assist with lens/frames selection and coatings.
• Process optical and contact lens orders in the system; schedule appointments.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and protect patient confidentiality.
