Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction, assist with ADLs and therapies.
• Perform PCT duties: vitals, tests, telemetry, samples, EKGs, dressings.
• Assist with call lights, meals, transport, and patient monitoring.
• Maintain a safe, clean environment with infection control.
• Monitor patients and report condition or equipment changes.
• Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks.
• Stock supplies and assist with department activities.
• Communicate with patients and families to support care.
• Demonstrate professionalism and grow with the team.
• Respond to emergencies and provide supervision as needed.

UPMC Passavant is hiring a Part-Time Patient Care Technician to support our Night Program at the McCandless location. Employees receive an additional $2.00 per hour on top of the current off-shift differential. This role is part of the UPMC Inpatient Patient Care Support Career Ladder, offering opportunities for growth and advancement. Title and rate of pay are determined based on education and experience. Candidates must have at least 6 months of patient care experience to qualify for the Night Program.

Position: Part-Time Patient Care Technician

Department: 6 South Surgical Oncology

Location: UPMC Passavant

Shifts: 24 hours per week, straight nights

Qualifications

Title and rate of pay will be determined based upon individual qualifications, experience, and education. The minimum hourly starting rates for each level are as follows:

• Care Attendant: $18.19
• Nursing Assistant: $18.59
• Patient Care Technician: $18.99
• Patient Care Technician, Senior: $19.19

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including assisting with ADLs, procedures, and therapies
• Perform core PCT responsibilities, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry application, specimen collection, bladder scans, EKGs, and basic dressings
• Assist with unit and patient needs (e.g., responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and monitoring)
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment while following infection control and safety protocols
• Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly
• Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed
• Support unit operations by stocking supplies and assisting with department activities
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care
• Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, supporting team initiatives, and seeking opportunities for growth and development
• Respond to emergent situations and provide patient supervision or assistance as appropriate
