Job summary

YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a part-time Music Instructor at the Tom Taylor Family YMCA in Gig Harbor, WA. The role involves creating engaging music lessons for diverse ages, up to 25 hours weekly, and developing plans that align with YMCA values.

The ideal candidate has 5 years of music training and 1–2 years teaching experience, with ability to teach preschool through adult levels and manage varying ages and backgrounds.

Qualifications

• 5 years of formal music training or comparable experience.
• 1–2 years of experience as a music teacher/teaching assistant.
• Preferred: experience teaching preschool through adult, beginning–intermediate levels.
• Positive attitude and experience with diverse populations.
• Ability to create comprehensive lesson plans reflecting student level.

Responsibilities

• Develop lesson plans with progression matching class ability and YMCA mission.
• Demonstrate sound technical and artistic music principles.
• Provide an impactful learning experience and monitor student progress.
• Communicate program information to students and parents.
• Lead music classes to YMCA members and engage volunteers.
