Job summary

Cherokee County School District - GA is seeking a Part-Time Academic and Support Counselor to provide academic, behavioral, and mental health services to students in grades 6–12 within the MTSS framework. The role focuses on Tier 1–3 supports and acts as a trusted mentor to students.

The position involves monitoring attendance and performance data, coordinating tutoring and credit recovery, and engaging families to remove barriers to learning in alignment with district goals.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher with required state certification in a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience as an educator or school-based mental health professional.
  • Knowledge of MTSS, attendance interventions, trauma-informed practices, and evidence-based mental health supports preferred.
  • Georgia motor vehicle license with endorsements & acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct mental and behavioral health services at Tier 1–3, including crisis intervention.
  • Serve as a mentor for identified students.
  • Monitor attendance, academic performance, and behavioral data to inform interventions.
  • Develop and implement individualized academic and behavioral support plans.
  • Coordinate tutoring, interventions and credit recovery support as needed.
  • Engage parents/guardians in the intervention process.
