Student Advocacy Specialist – Grant Funded Position
Canton, GA, 2026‑2027 – part‑time, in‑person presence required, reports to Director of Student Services.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate identification and facilitation of appropriate interventions for students with or at risk for mental health concerns.
- Coordinate, document, evaluate and report outcomes of Tier 1 and Tier 2 behavioral health training programs and materials of the local school system.
- Attend information and training meetings related to school safety and student behavioral health.
- Ensure a comprehensive approach to early behavioral health identification and school safety.
- Facilitate timely referrals and access to a continuum of supports for students.
- Ensure coordinated case management and track each referral to provide follow‑up and reduce duplication of services.
- Coordinate transition/support plans for students returning to school from more restrictive settings.
- Monitor outcomes and effectiveness of interventions.
- Facilitate and monitor Tier I, II, and III level support.
- Document, evaluate outcomes, and report progress to district leadership and state agencies as required.
- Attend mandatory trainings offered by GEMA/HS, DBHDD, and DOE.
- Collaborate with school‑level safety and threat assessment teams to integrate behavioral health supports into school safety plans.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a related behavioral health field, or comparable experience with PSC certification.
- Exceptional communication skills, effective with students, families, educators, community organizations, insurance care coordinators, behavioral health providers, and state agencies.
- Experience with or awareness of Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
- Preferred: coursework in data analysis, statistics, or a related area and/or experience in data‑driven decision‑making.
