Job summary

The Cancer & Hematology Centers is seeking a part-time Medical Technologist to perform diagnostic testing at the Flint campus, with Lansing as a secondary location. The role requires bachelor degree, internship, and ASCP certification, plus experience with LIS and various chemistry/hematology instrumentation.

The position runs 20 hours per week, Thursdays and Fridays from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, with no weekends or holidays.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree and successful completion of medical technologist internship.
• Must pass registry exam and have current certification.
• Must be ASCP certified or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Performs assays per procedures and reports results after verifying validity.
• Prepares specimens and performs testing with high quality and efficiency.
• Maintains equipment per maintenance schedule and records checks.
• Performs and records QC and proficiency tests.
• Collects and handles patient specimens correctly.
• Keeps up with current lab developments by reading journals.
• Communicates effectively with peers and clinicians to support patient care.
• Works as a team member to enhance workflow in the cancer center.
• Has access to EMR, LIS and billing systems daily.
• Duties may change at management's discretion.
