Job summary

The Cancer & Hematology Centers is seeking a part-time Medical Technologist to perform testing on patient specimens at the Flint campus with Lansing as a secondary location.

This role requires a BS degree, ASCP certification, and two years of related experience; duties include QC, instrument maintenance, and reporting results. The position is 20 hours per week, Thursdays and Fridays 7:00am–5:00pm, with no weekends.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree and successful completion of medical technologist internship.
• Must pass registry exam and have current certification.
• Must be ASCP certified or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Performs assigned technical assays according to established procedures and reports tests after verifying validity of results.
• Prepares specimens for analysis and performs testing maintaining quality and resource efficiency.
• Maintains equipment according to schedule and records function checks; takes remedial action when indicated.
• Performs and records quality control and proficiency tests; corrects actions when QC fails.
• Collects patient specimens properly including preparation, labeling, handling and transportation.
