Job summary

DaMar Staffing is seeking a part-time Coder to assign diagnosis and procedures codes for inpatient, observation, outpatient surgery, wound care and Emergency Department. The role requires accuracy and familiarity with CMS/DRG guidelines to support timely billing.

The candidate should have RHIT/RHIA/CCS/CPC-H or eligibility within 6 months, and 2 years of acute hospital coding experience preferred, with CPSI knowledge as a plus.

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent; associate degree or HIM preferred.
• RHIT/RHIA/CCS/CPC-H certification or eligible within 6 months.
• 2 years acute hospital coding experience preferred; CPSI knowledge a plus.
• Strong knowledge of ICD, CPT, CPT-PCS? and DRG/APC coding guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Completes inpatient, observation, outpatient surgery, clinic and Emergency Department coding functions utilizing approved system workflow applications for coding, abstracting, and financial billing.
• Demonstrates accurate, complete and consistent selection of principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures; identifies complications and co-morbid conditions; verifies discharge disposition codes.
• Queries physicians for documentation clarification per guidelines; determine observation times and carve-outs as needed.
• Responds to billing edit queries from Patient Financial Services within departmental guidelines.
• Follows AHA Coding Guidelines and other regulatory directives for ICD, CPT, and HCPCS II coding.
• Maintains knowledge of coding issues by reading official guidelines and CMS regulations.
• Meets productivity and accuracy requirements per HIM policy.
• Maintains professional certification as mandated by AHIMA, AAPC or equivalent.
• Assists HIM management in orientation and training of new staff and contract coders.
• Attends continuing education seminars remotely or on-site as scheduled to maintain credentials.
• May perform other duties as assigned.
