Job summary

McPherson Hospital Inc. seeks an experienced Coder to assign diagnosis and procedures codes for inpatient, observation, outpatient surgery, wound care and ED encounters.

You will use approved systems to code, abstract, and support timely billing and reimbursement. Responsibilities include ensuring complete and accurate coding, querying physicians for documentation clarifications, and maintaining current knowledge of coding guidelines and regulatory changes.

Qualifications

  • High school degree or equivalent; associate degree in Health Information Management preferred.
  • RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC-H or eligible to sit within 6 months of hire.
  • 2 years acute hospital coding experience preferred; CPSI knowledge preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD, CPT, and DRG/APC coding conventions.
  • Familiarity with AHA Coding Guidelines and CMS specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Code inpatient, observation, outpatient surgery, wound care, and ED accurately.
  • Query physicians for documentation clarifications per guidelines.
  • Ensure correct DRG/ CPT/HCPCS coding for reimbursement.
  • Maintain knowledge of coding guidelines and regulatory updates.
  • Meet productivity and accuracy targets per HIM policy.
  • Assist in orientation and training of staff and contractors.
  • Attend continuing education to maintain credentials.
