Job summary

Forefront Dermatology in West Burlington, IA is seeking a Medical Assistant to support the dermatologist during patient visits. You will room patients, scribes for the dermatologist, perform post-op wound care, draw blood, and help keep exam rooms stocked and ready.

The role requires 1+ year of medical office experience, CMA/LPN/RN preferred, and willingness to travel to other clinic locations as needed. We offer health/dental/vision, HSA $500 matching, PTO/holiday pay, life insurance,

Qualifications

• Minimum 1+ year of recent experience in a medical office in a similar capacity.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent; Forefront Derm Tech certification program may be required for non-certified assistants.
• Must stay current on state certifications, licenses, and registrations.

Responsibilities

• Rooming patients and documenting vital information.
• Scribing for the dermatologist and assisting with procedures.
• Providing post-op wound care and drawing blood.
• Cleaning and stocking exam rooms and scheduling appointments.
• Assisting dermatologists with procedures such as biopsies, Mohs surgery, and other treatments.

The Medical Assistant is essential during the patient visit, accompanying the dermatologist in the room and promoting a friendly and efficient environment for patients, staff, and dermatologists.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

• Rooming patients and documents all vital information
• Scribing information for the dermatologist
• Providing post op wound care to patients
• Drawing blood and suture removal
• Cleaning and stocking the exam rooms
• Scheduling patient appointments

Assisting the dermatologist with procedures such as:

• Surgical photographs
• Biopsies – punch, DIF and shave
• Excisions
• Electrodessication and curettage
• I&D
• Mohs micrographic skin cancer surgery
• Phototherapy
• Injections
• Koh preps
• Trichograms
• Tzank preps
• Dermabrasion
• Patch testing
• Blue light

Qualifications

Education:

Minimum post high-school education in a medical support field: Certified Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Registered Nurse (Non-Certified Medical Assistants will need to complete the Forefront Derm Tech certification program within the prescribed time period and maintain certification upon expiration).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• 1+ years of recent experience in a medical office in a similar capacity is preferred
• Certified Medical Assistant, DERM Tech a plus
• Must keep current on all state certifications, licenses and/or registrations to continue employment
• Must be willing to travel to other clinic locations as needed
• Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office and Electronic Medical Record systems
• Must possess organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff, clients, and visitors
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team
