Job summary

Carteret County Government’s Department of Social Services is seeking a Part-time Medicaid Caseworker to assist residents with public assistance eligibility, transportation and enrollment. This role handles applications, interviews, referrals and case management under supervision, with NC FAST/NC TRACKS systems and documentation duties.

Work location is Beaufort, NC or Morehead City; salary is $22.08 per hour; posting through 11/12/2026.

Qualifications

• Graduation from High School and one year of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience.
• Associates degree in Human Services, Social Services, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, or a closely related curriculum is preferred and may be substituted for one year of experience.
• Background and fingerprint screening upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Receives and processes applications for public assistance; explains requirements and assists with forms.
• Interviews applicants to determine eligibility and verifies information.
• Makes referrals to community services.
• Prepares reports and maintains files; enters data into NC systems.
• Performs Eligibility and Enrollment activities in the eligibility system.
• Provides technical expertise to medical personnel and social work staff on eligibility issues.
• Manages client caseload and coordinates transportation and ongoing case management.
