Job summary

Beacon Hill is seeking a Part-Time Media Relations Specialist for a nonprofit trade association in Alexandria, VA. This temporary role focuses on a November Congressional briefing and federal policy initiative, with 15-20 hours per week and a hybrid schedule (2 days onsite).

You will craft pitches, messaging, press releases, speaking points, and quotes; pitch national outlets; leverage DC media contacts and manage outreach with senior leadership. Start ASAP through late January 2027, $25-$30/hr.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in media relations, PR, or strategic communications.
• Proven experience pitching reporters and securing earned media coverage.
• Strong network of national media contacts; Washington Post relationships preferred.
• Experience with Washington, DC media, public policy, advocacy, or government affairs preferred.
• Ability to translate complex policy issues into compelling media stories.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a targeted media strategy for the briefing and policy initiative.
• Identify news angles and create pitches, messaging, press releases, talking points, and quotes.
• Proactively pitch national and top-tier outlets to generate earned coverage.
• Leverage media contacts and build relationships with reporters covering Congress and public policy.
• Coordinate media opportunities with briefing panelists and stakeholders.
• Partner with senior leadership while independently managing outreach and post-event coverage.
