Job summary

Catholic Community of St. Francis Xavier in Hunt Valley, MD seeks a part-time Music Director to lead liturgical music for weekend Masses and Holy Days. Under the pastor, you will rehearse and lead the choir, coordinate cantors, accompanists, and instrumentalists, and maintain a sacred music library.

The role requires proficiency in organ, piano, and choral conducting, plus experience in Catholic liturgical music. Pay is $30.00 per hour with sick leave benefits and 403(b) enrollment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Music or related field strongly preferred.
• Must be proficient in organ, piano, choral conducting, and vocal coaching.
• Minimum 3 years prior experience as a liturgical musician or director of liturgical music preferably in a Catholic parish.
• Strong working knowledge of sacred music within Catholic Church tradition and ability to integrate it into liturgy.
• Knowledge of Catholic liturgical rites and Church documents related to sacred music (Sacrosanctum Concilium, Musicam Sacram, Sing to the Lord, GIRM).
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
• Ability to supervise and counsel volunteers and paid music ministry staff.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and creating worship aids as needed.

Responsibilities

• Select music and serve as lead accompanist for 3 weekend Masses and Holy Days.
• Rehearse with the choir weekly and collaborate with parish staff.
• Schedule other music ministers for weekend and Holy Day Masses.
• Prepare annual budget for liturgical music and manage licenses, reporting, and copyright postings.
• Recruit and train new choir members.
• Develop and maintain a sacred music library for various ensembles.
• Engage in education initiatives about sacred music in liturgy with the Pastor.
• Ensure tuning, maintenance, and repairs of instruments at all worship sites.
