Job summary

St. Michael Poplar Springs Parish in Mt. Airy, MD, seeks a Director of Music and Liturgy to lead liturgical musical expression and coordinate parish music programs.

The role collaborates with pastoral staff and the Liturgy Committee to ensure services are prayerful, beautiful, and appropriate. Required are a music degree, five years of liturgical music experience, and ability to work evenings and weekends, with strong keyboard, conducting, and teaching skills to guide volunteers and paid staff

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Music or its equivalent; Master's preferred.
• Five years' experience providing liturgical music in a Roman Catholic setting.
• Working knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgical theology and sacred music repertoire.
• Ability to collaborate and guide others with enthusiasm and patience.
• Accomplished keyboardist with choral, vocal, and conducting training.

Responsibilities

• Develop a long-range vision for liturgical musical expression.
• Direct and coordinate all musical groups to support Mass celebrations.
• Schedule musicians and select music for liturgical celebrations.
• Support funerals and weddings scheduled at St. Michael.
• Plan and coordinate liturgical celebrations with the Liturgy Committee.
• Develop and monitor the annual liturgical budget.
