Catholic Community of St. Francis Xavier in Hunt Valley, MD seeks a part-time Music Director to lead liturgical music for weekend Masses and Holy Days. Under the pastor, you will rehearse and lead the choir, coordinate cantors, accompanists, and instrumentalists, and maintain a sacred music library.

The role requires proficiency in organ, piano, and choral conducting, plus experience in Catholic liturgical music. Pay is $30.00 per hour with sick leave benefits and 403(b) enrollment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Music or related field strongly preferred.
• Must be proficient in organ, piano, choral conducting, and vocal coaching.
• Minimum 3 years prior experience as a liturgical musician or director of liturgical music preferably in a Catholic parish.
• Strong working knowledge of sacred music within Catholic Church tradition and ability to integrate it into liturgy.
• Knowledge of Catholic liturgical rites and Church documents related to sacred music (Sacrosanctum Concilium, Musicam Sacram, Sing to the Lord, GIRM).
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
• Ability to supervise and counsel volunteers and paid music ministry staff.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and creating worship aids as needed.

Catholic Community of St. Francis Xavier, Hunt Valley, MD, seeks candidates for a Music Director. With the guidance of the pastor, the Director of Liturgical Music will be responsible for the music ministry and coordinating sacred music at weekend Masses and Holy Days. Rehearse and lead choir for weekend Mass. Perform all duties consistent with Church documents on sacred music. This is a part-time position, working 15-19 weekly. Additional hours and benefits may be considered and discussed with qualified candidates.

Essential Functions

• Select music and serve as lead accompanist for 3 weekend Masses and Holy Days.
• Rehearse with the choir once per week and collaborate with staff of the parish and attend staff meetings if possible.
• Schedule other music ministers (cantors, accompanists and instrumentalists) as needed for weekend Masses, Holy Day Masses.
• Prepare annual budget for liturgical music and ensure that expenses adhere to approved budget. Make sure the proper licenses ae purchased, usage reported and copyright information posted as required.
• Recruit and train new members to the choir ministry.
• Develop and maintain a sacred music library of various styles for assembly, choirs, cantors, and instrumentalists.
• In collaboration with Pastor, engage in ongoing initiatives to educate all individuals involved in music ministry and the assembly on the proper role of sacred music in liturgy, in accordance with Church documents.
• Ensure that tuning, preventive maintenance, and repairs are performed on a timely basis for musical instruments at all worship sites.

Position Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Music or related field strongly preferred.
• Must be proficient in organ, piano, choral conducting, and vocal coaching.
• Minimum 3 years prior experience as a liturgical musician or director of liturgical music preferably in a Catholic parish.
• Strong working knowledge of the treasury of sacred music, particularly within Catholic Church tradition; ability to integrate appropriate sacred music into each liturgical season and celebration.
• Working knowledge of Catholic liturgical rites, including Sacramental celebrations, and the liturgical documents of the Catholic Church, particularly as they relate to sacred music, including but not limited to: Sacrosanctum Concilium, Musicam Sacram, Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship and the General Instruction on the Roman Missal.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
• Ability to supervise and counsel volunteers and paid members of the music ministry.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (or whatever software you use.)
• Create worship aids as needed for larger celebrations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Pay Range: $30.00, Hourly
