Job summary

YMCA of South Alabama, Inc. is seeking a part-time Lifeguard at the Bounds Family YMCA in Daphne, AL. You will maintain safe swimming conditions, monitor the pool area, and enforce YMCA policies to ensure member safety and engagement.

Responsibilities include supervising swimmers, performing safety checks, responding to emergencies using the safe-in-six model, testing chemicals, and keeping records. Must hold CPR, AED, First Aid, and Lifeguard certification as per YMCA standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 15.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
• AED certification.
• Basic First Aid certification.
• Emergency Oxygen certification.
• YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent.
• Maintain certification up to date.
• Lifeguard skills per YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
• Respond to emergencies following YMCA policies and the safe‑in‑six model.
• Maintain positive relationships with members and staff.
• Apply safety rules and maintain records as required by YMCA/Health Dept.
• Perform equipment checks and ensure necessary equipment is available.
• Check pool for hazards on arrival and during shifts.
• Test pool chemicals when not guarding and take action as needed.
• Attend staff meetings and in‑service training.
• Clean pool, sauna and hot tub as directed.
